assembling
spring rolls in November
layers of warm
colors, lingering tastes—
so why your refusal?

sunset
a stolen ribbon around
her neck–
as darkness falls
how you miss her caress

birthday tanka

on my first birthday
the world weeps for
its handsome son–
throwing tantrums in my highchair
brings absolutely no one

daydream of clouds
over Cypress Creek–
we rise slowly,
covers crumple to the floor
into a world half dark, half light

cold trio

November morning–
my son asks why
is the moon smiling?

a branch catches
my hat…
sudden whispers

cold trees–
not enough syrup
on my plate

leaves rattle above
and under our feet—
an empty web

a D in chemistry
but A+ with the boys—
lighting fires
never felt so good, her blouse
rolled up in the stairwell
