don’t know where i’ve been

Blame it on all the rain…new job…Mars sesquiquadrate Pluto…whatever. My blogging hasn’t been happening this long, soggy month. I’ve been reading more. Spent a day pulling some of the 12 foot high weeds out of my back garden. Watched my husband get better and rejoiced with him when sneezing failed to be painful. Helped him power wash the green sheen off the deck. Thought of all the haiku I wasn’t writing and refrained from writing about how I wasn’t writing (until today). And today I realized how much I missed seeing the stars because of the ever present cloud cover over Austin. It’s the time of the Buck Moon which I hope to see if it clears up by tomorrow. Can’t recall the last full moon I saw. One does stand out in my memory but how long ago it was I don’t know. We were driving home from dinner and the moon reminded me of a giant cheesecake. It had that same creaminess; it looked deep dishy and the top was slightly cracked. Low on the horizon and ready for slicing. Now the wind is picking up and you can already sense the rain on the way. Soon, like the Inuit and their prodigious snow vocab, we in Austin will have one hundred words for clouds. Today they are layered in alternating grays and outlined with a bright white. It is the light you see when you close your eyes finally, and nothing is ever dark again.
